Igenity® brand calves lead US cattle sales

LINCOLN, Neb., September 23, 2021 / PRNewswire / – NEOGEN Corporation (NASDAQ: NEOG) provides cattle producers with a marketing tool that helps mitigate the risk associated with buying calves in the market. The Igenity Branded program, initially launched in 2019 as a partnership between NEOGEN and Superior Livestock, offers a secondary marketing route to producers currently using Igenity Beef or Igenity Feeder genetic tools.

Through the use of Igenity® genomic profiles from NEOGEN, the genetic merit of an animal for various traits in commercial cattle of all weight classes and breeds is quantified. Producers can then market their calves through Igenity Branded. Calves tested in the Igenity Branded program are classified into three different marketing groups, based on their average Igenity Terminal or Maternal Index: Elite, Premier and Choice. For a load to qualify as an Igenity brand, producers must test at least 35 percent of their calf crop.

Igenity-tested calves marked the summer sale season, earning an average premium of over $ 591 per head.
